It was a great GiveBIG day and it was all thanks to you! Our community raised more than 11.1 million dollars for 1400+ local nonprofits.  WSFB’s generous donors gifted us more than $12,000 during the event on May 15th, to help those in our West Seattle Community in need.   As we await word as to how much of the almost 1 million dollar stretch pool we secured from the Seattle Foundation, we are filled with gratitude and appreciation to our wonderful supporters.

INSTRUMENTS OF CHANGE RAISES ALMOST $100,000!

 200 guests joined us for our 6^th Annual Instruments of Change, Friday evening,  May 3rd, and helped us raised almost $100,000!

The event featured a hosted Happy Hour, Game Room with a Wheel for Foodies, Wine Toss & Silent Auction.  Guests enjoyed dinner and our infamous Dessert Dash along with a live auction and program which included two special guest speakers, both West Seattle residents.

Kristen Corning Bedford, co-founder of The Ruby Room, spoke about the meaning of philanthropy in her life and how we can all think of ourselves as Philanthropists by engaging in informed, intentional and joyful giving.

Did you know that last year the West Seattle Food served over 3,400 children? 
 
The West Seattle Food Bank has many partners that help the youngest in our community get off to a good start.  Financial and in-kind gifts help secure baby food and formula, diapers and sometimes even special treats for birthdays.  We can offer toddler bags once each month, thanks to support from Food Security for Children at Solid Ground.
 
Did you know that the West Seattle Food Bank distributed over $270,000 worth of baby supplies last year?
 
Through our partnership with WestSide Baby, we connect our clients with diapers, furniture, clothes, toys and more.  This has been a very popular addition to our services in the past several years. Many of our supporters are children themselves.  Last year several children held food drives rather than receiving gifts at the birthday parties, and schools and community groups organized food drives or participated in the Penny Harvest program and donated proceeds to the West Seattle Food Bank.  The children of this community that rely on our services are grateful that there are so many willing to lend a helping hand. An apple a day keeps the doctor away but a pear is even better.  Distributing healthy food is a critical part of our service, and fresh produce is an important part of all healthy diets.  We accomplish this goal of securing fresh produce by reaching out to a variety of community resources. Listed here are a few of our sources for fresh produce.

• Did you know that you can grow produce to donate to the West Seattle Food Bank? Make sure that the produce is clean and free of bugs, bring it to the Food Bank during our donation hours, and we will find a family that appreciates your efforts.
• Lettuce Pray, now in its 5^th year, collects produce and other healthy food items from churches in West Seattle and White Center, and then delivers the food to the local food banks.  For information on how to participate in this program contact Jane Taylor at janeatay@msn.com.
• City Fruit is now working in West Seattle to help residents harvest fruit from their trees and get it to local food banks. Visit cityfruit.org for more information on City Fruit or contact westseattle@cityfruit.org for help harvesting fruit.
• Our van is out five days a week, picking up fresh produce and other items from local retailer. See our list of regular food donors.

For over 13 years, employees of Nucor Steel have held a food drive which the company has matched with a generous financial donation.  In December of 2012 Nucor employees collected 2,800 pounds of food and $4,600 in financial donations. Nucor Steel, Inc. double matched these generous donations with a $15,000 donation to the West Seattle Food Bank. These contributions are PHENOMENAL and we thank them all so much for their tireless support of our organization and the West Seattle community!
